About this place
Standing alongside rental garden plots in Higashi-Mizumoto, Katsushika Ward—close to the leafy expanses of Mizumoto Park—Kissa Hatakekko occupies an old building that retains its exposed timber beams. Calming table seating occupies the 1st floor, while upstairs on the 2nd floor, guests can take off their shoes and stretch their legs in a tatami-matted space. Pastoral garden views through the windows make it an easygoing spot to unwind during a stroll around the neighborhood.
Homestyle baked sweets and house-crafted drinks
For an afternoon break, the cafe's handmade, unfussy sweets are a highlight. The popular sweet potato muffin pairs a gently sweet crumb with tender, chewy pieces of sweet potato, offering just the right size for a light snack. Alongside blueberry and cream cheese muffins, scones, and oatmeal cookies, the homemade custard pudding draws attention with its bouncy texture and balanced, mild caramel sauce. Good companions from the beverage list include house-brewed chai scented with cardamom and other spices, a crisp homemade ginger ale, and a rich original drip coffee blend.
Lunch plates brimming with farm produce
At midday, the vegetable-forward lunch plates are a satisfying draw. Anchored by tender cabbage rolls simmered to melt-in-the-mouth softness, the spread features side dishes that let simple produce shine, such as sauteed mixed mushrooms and kinpira made with farm-harvested kiriboshi daikon (dried daikon strips), accompanied by a choice of steamed rice or focaccia. Diners can also opt for chili con carne rice simmered with soybeans and minced meat, keema curry, or a dedicated kids' plate available for primary school children and younger, making it an easy stop whether visiting solo or with family.
Outdoors, a pet-friendly terrace allows guests to sit with their dogs and enjoy the open breeze on clear days. The cafe operates on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11:00 to 17:00, and on-site parking is provided.
